MoveMeNT Dance Expo

The 2008 MoveMeNT Darwin Dance Expo was the first event of its kind for Ausdance NT and the wider Darwin Community. It proved to be extremely successful with approximately 1500-2000 people attending throughout the course of the day and over 25 community dance groups, organisations and businesses took active part in the event, with three special guest performances by: “One Mob Different Country” (The men’s dance groups from Berrimah Correctional Centre), ‘Thriller Dance Troupe” (Local group who do public performances of Michael Jackson’s Thriller complete with zombie-esque costumes) and to headline the event, The Chooky Dancers!

In 2010 MoveMeNT Dance Expo expanded with over 35 local dance groups, organisations and businesses taking part in the event, including local favourite food and beverage outlets ‘Jays Coffee’ and ‘Pizza Ala Carte – Woodfired Pizza’s’. Audience numbers grew to 2500-3000 people attending and participating in a diverse array of taste-tester style workshops throughout the day. 2010 brought with it sponsorship and support from the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Community Benefit Fund, allowing Ausdance NT to engage several more guest performances from: OPA School of Hellenic Dance, Congolese Dream Voice Dancers, Liberian Womens Cultural Group, Venaska Cheliah, D-City Rockers and Gary Lang NT Dance Company.
