Ausdance NT Honorary Life Members
Lily Vita
For her tireless efforts in the development of dance practice and education in the NT. Over the span of two decades Lily provided a sustained and constant artistic outlet for many young Territorians. Her teaching practice nurtured her students with self confidence, a sense of who they are and more importantly self-discipline. Lily was also an integral part of the implementation of Dance as a subject at high school level now offered at five Darwin high schools. Her ethos helped bridge the tyranny of distance that Darwin faced in regards to the arts and her teaching, discipline and dedication to both dance and drama has left a long and strong legacy behind in the Territory
Dr Maggi Philips
For her pioneering commitment to Ausdance NT since its inception, first as Secretary and then as President of the branch conducting her now famous meetings in the park which saw the initiation of workshops, artists-in-residencies, community events, conferences, and the establishment of outreach programs with aboriginal communities throughout the Territory.
Penny Kerr
Penny Kerr stepped into the Ausdance sphere with her willingness to learn and embrace diversity and provided the organisation and its membership with the right attitude to move into another stage of strength. We were still mere beginners at cohesive engagement but Penny’s commitment and unruffled good sense enabled an office to be born and, subsequently, real support for the dance community to flow. The incremental achievements that accrued from Penny’s leadership generated a sense of confidence in the cause and, while there was always more than one part-time executive officer could do, the flurry of papers did provoke dancing, in its many and varied forms, within the Territory. I commend recognition for Penny Kerr’s important and unique contribution to Ausdance NT.
Sarah Calver
In recognition of her contributions to Ausdance NT and setting the future of dance in the Northern Territory. She has contributed to dance in the Northern Territory as a performer, educator and advocate. Sarah has worked tirelessly in dance education, cross cultural initiatives and cross age initiatives. She has opened doors for many young dancers. Sarah has been an instrumental person in raising the status of dance in the Northern Territory and putting NT dance on the National agenda.
