<p>Over the last 30 years, the Australia Council has supported and promoted Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and organisations, including Archie Roach, Christine Anu, Deborah Mailman, Doris Pilkington, Ken Thaiday, Bangarra, Banduk Marika, Leah Purcell, Yirra Yaakin and Yothu Yindi as well as the next generation of young and creative artists such as Wire MC, Emma Donovan, Alick Tipoti, Shakaya and Jason Pitt.</p>

<p>iMoves (Independent Movers) 2010 presents choreographic works by selected artists, providing an up-to-the-minute picture of the vibrant contemporary dance scene in the NT.</p>
<p>Julia Gray from Sunameke will present her latest new work “The Centipede and Her Odd Shoe”, a solo dance work development incorporating film and photography with original music by James Mangohig and Julia Gray.</p>

These two works will go through a collaborative process with Choreographic Facilitator, Susan Van Den Ham, weaving moments of melding thread throughout the two pieces to create a seamless and exciting new work for audiences to sink their minds and eyes into.</p>

On a dance floor with difference, with the security of sand under foot, kick off your shoes, kick up your heels, even if you have two left ones and come expend a  little energy.</p>
<p>Set up right in the hub of Festival Park (Civic Square Park) is an irresistible gathering spot for this FREE entertainment and unique audience participation event.</p>
<p>Civic Square holds a special place in Darwin’s dance history.  For many years it hosted public dances, debutante balls and waltzes. <p> Ancient and everlasting, knowledge is painted as bodymarks on the next generation, woven through time, the brush is made of human hair, the paint is ochre.</p>
<p> Gather with us on Mindle Beach as the sun sets on the final evening of the 2010 Darwin Festival for this immersive and all inclusive performance showcasing the ancient rituals and dance of the Dhalinybuy clan with song man Djakapurra Munyarrayan and his family. The story and knowledge is passed on, the way it’s always been.</p>

<p> The mixed-race community of Indigenous, Filipino, Torres Strait Islander, Polynesian, and Greek backgrounds broke down many of the racial barriers of the time and an unmistakable musical style surfaced.</p>
<p> Join Ali Mills and members of the Top End Folk Club on the closing night of the festival for a glorious celebration, reminiscent of the days of old Darwin.</p>

Incorporating the traditional songlines of the Djapu clan with inspired puppetry by Erth Visual and Physical Theatre, an extraordinary dance emerges, weaving together ancient movement, story and cultural expression with puppetry and contemporary performances.</p>

<p>Julie Boyd, President of Regional Arts Australia says, “We are incredibly excited that Launceston is hosting this year’s conference, following on from our last conference in Alice Springs, which was a smashing success! Regional artists, art workers and volunteers from all over Australia will really get the chance to experience Tasmania’s vibrant culture, interspersed with a host of national and international speakers and artists.&#8221;</p>
